With the E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL fully active air suspension we are pooling our most innovative and intelligent suspension technologies to create a mesmerising driving experience.

In "Curve" mode, the vehicle can actively lean into a bend. This minimises the transverse force and tangibly increases comfort and dynamism. In "Comfort" mode, the ROAD SURFACE SCAN with stereo camera scans the road ahead of the vehicle. The suspension struts are then activated so as to substantially reduce the body movements when driving over bumps in the road. There are two other modes to choose from: "Sport" and "Offroad".

The GLE accelerates more powerfully and efficiently than ever before. The range extends from a 4-cylinder diesel[*] to silky-smooth and intelligently electrified 6-cylinder in-line engines[**] and the breathtaking V8 flagship variant[***].


The 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder diesel engines offer a contemporary combination of efficiency and agility in every output rating. The 6-cylinder in-line engine goes one better to offer drivers and passengers a special upgrade in terms of refined, smooth running.

The systematically electrified 6-cylinder in-line and V8 petrol engines feature turbocharging as well as an integrated starter/alternator, an additional electrical compressor and a 48‑volt on-board electrical system. The integrated electric motor supports the combustion engine with up to 16 kW (22 hp) of power and 500-700 Nm of torque during acceleration, for example, and supplies the 48 V on-board electrical system with energy by means of highly efficient recuperation.

In addition to this, all engines are paired with the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

To ensure reliable start-off, even on slippery surfaces, the system permanently distributes the drive torque between the front and rear axle. Even oversteer and understeer when cornering at speed are reduced.

The 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive with the 4ETS Electronic Traction System ensures outstanding off-road capability and optimum traction on loose surfaces, snow or slush. For a noticeable increase in driving dynamics, the system can distribute the drive power variably between the front and rear axles in conjunction with 6- and 8-cylinder engines.
